I love these things! Nanodots are awesome! You can make shapes and pull out little lines of maganets. I’ve only had two problems with these. First, their size. These things are about the size of a BB. There small. This makes them easy to lose. I have already lost two of them in the first 2 days of having them. So instead of 216, I have 214. The other is the price. I might have gotten a different color if they weren’t .00 more expensive. I’m sorry, but .00 is really expensive for these things. I think all colors should be the same price, and the price should be around – dollars. Its .00 for these, and .00 for the other colors. Oh yah, and the picture of this product does not match what you get, which I like. You get the really cool packaging (that cylinderical plastic tube) that the other colors get, you don’t get these in a box like the picture shows. Like I said, I was happy with this, i like the cool packaging. Also, if you want to see what these look like, just look up nanodots on youtube, you’ll get a bunch of results. Oh yah, and te shipping time was about six days since the time I ordered them to the time they arrived. Okay, so heres what you get: -Nanodots, 216 of them Here are the pros and cons: Pros Cons Well, thats that. I highly reccomend this item for kids over 11. Never give these to a small kid. I enjoy these immensely. Those two problems are not minor, but they don’t really ruin the enyoyment of the product (as long as you don’t lose to many). I didn’t mean to discorage you from this product, but those cons are true. I love these and I think you will to. BUY them now!

Pros: So much fun to play with, mine is ‘cooling off’ at home to keep me out of trouble with the boss. Magnets appear high quality (no obvious defects in surface, size, roundness, magnetism, etc.) and pretty good strength compared to competitors. I am quite satisfied playing with my….nanodots. Yes, that’s what I was going to say… Cons: A bit expensive for a desk toy, but rare earth magnets generally aren’t cheap (thanks a lot, Chinese near-monopoly). Also, keep far far away from dirt and children.

These little magnetic balls can be configured in many different ways. One package is not enough to create all the impressive looking structures these balls beckon to invent. I now have 4 packages and am able to construct a more flexible array of interesting sculptures. Ultimately I find playing with the dots to be a soothing stress release. |

After I saw this magnetic thinking putty on various gadget blogs, I knew I had to get it. I always have to have something to fiddle with on my desk at work, and thinking putty works well because I can use it like a stress ball, pull it, smoosh it, etc. The magnetic putty is WEIRD and very cool. It comes with this super strong magnet that fully absorbs into the putty after about a minute. You can also use the magnet to pull strands of the putty out of the greater mass. There’s lots you can do with it, and if you’re a fan of weird desk toys like I am, you’ll love it.

Not what I expected., By

I was expecting something the texture and consistency of…well…putty. This isn’t. It’s still a cool item, but the “putty” is incredibly thick and heavy, which means it responds so slowly to the magnet that it isn’t any fun as a “toy” for adults indulging their inner children (or, I imagine, for children themselves). There are more ‘responsive’ magnetic putties out there, though they are also more expensive. The metallic filings within the putty, which gives it its ‘magnetic’ properties, are almost much larger than those in similar products, giving this a very coarse, grainy texture. If left with the magnet long enough, some of these filings may come free of the putty itself. However, this product does have some value as an educational device. It can be used to demonstrate the properties of magnets, and also of slow-moving liquids. Lay the magnet beside the putty and go away for a few hours. If the magnet was close enough, by the time you return the putty should be well on its way to engulfing the magnet.

Hard to work with & not much fun,

This putty seemed like it would be super cool, but in actuality, it’s hard to bend and maneuver and it really doesn’t react to the magnet well at all. Also, before it will even move at all, you have to charge that part of the putty, by putting the magnet on that piece for about 30 seconds. It’s very hard and not very bendy. Also, the small metal pieces in the putty rub off on your hands and other things. I would not suggest buying this. |
