This product uses two parabolic mirrors to create the illusion of a small object (e.g. a penny) floating above the object’s actual location. The resulting image is very clear and sharp, and can be viewed from a reasonable range of angles. I found that the mirror scratched easily, hence the lower mark for durability; otherwise it is pretty rugged. A quibble: because the illusion is produced with mirrors it is incorrect to refer to it as a hologram, which is produced by interference.

I bought the more expensive “Mirage” which is a higher quality (less distorted) image than this but this is by comparison may be the better buy when it comes to value for your buck. It accomplishes what the Mirage does with just a little less flare. If you have no Mirage to compare it to you will be completely satisfied.

These are not the cheesy magnets you would pick up from the planetarium/science store 10 or 20 years ago. These are high strength magnets that allow you to do amazing things around the house and office.

Do note that because of thinness of these magnets compared to their magnetic strength, you may crack/break them if using a tool (like pliers)to pry them off a surface they are stuck to.

Geeky fun.

I bought these to glue to other items to make frig magnets. They were perfect. I did have one break right out of the box because I lost my grip on it trying to pry it off the stack. It snapped back and cracked in half. To have this type of thinner magnet I am willing to be careful.

I bought these to hold an aluminum gas door closed on my truck after the original spring broke. They show a picture of the magnets holding together through a penny so I figured I’d give them a try after using hook and loop first and having it fail due to exposure to the elements. I got the tiny 1/4 inch ones and used epoxy to clue them on the door. They worked so perfectly and I found so many other uses for them I actually ordered two different sizes to add to my collection. They are so strong that even the tiniest ones will hold through multiple sheets of paper on your fridge, I’ve glued them to bottle openers and also to my BBQ tools to stick right on the side of my grille. I love these things and can’t believe I never discovered them before.

I live and camp in the western U.S. and have found this antenna to be very effective. It works either while driving down the road or while stationary, and it’s not too difficult to attach it to your roof while in motion, unless it freaks out your cat when you open the window, but that’s another issue.

I’ve tried it on three phones, two Motorolas and an LG, and in all cases it usually brings the signal up by two bars. In areas with no signal, sometimes it allows weak analog service and sometimes it won’t. Having this antenna has meant the difference between analog and digital service, or between no service and analog. Even if you are getting four or five bars, when you use this it seems that your calls will get dropped less often, or never.

There are a few limitations:

1. Your cell phone must accept an external antenna. Look for a hole near the base of the phone’s antenna, which is often covered with a rubber plug.

2. Many phones require an adapter to be used with this product. You will have to check with Wilson Electronics to see if this is the case. If it is, they cost about . Your cell phone store may also carry them.

3. This thing works because it is attached to the roof of a vehicle. You can’t carry it up on a hill and hold it in your hand – you have to be in the car. I have heard of people attaching it to an old-fashioned pie tin that is attached to some PVC pipe to get it six feet higher, but personally I haven’t tried this.

4. The cable between the antenna/car and your phone isn’t very long, so plan on sitting in the car to use this.

Overall, I am very pleased with this because it lets me check my e-mail while camping, which means I can play hooky from my job and not get caught.

I just got this today. It’s advertised as an antenna for the car but I’m using it at home. I’m about 100 yards out of a cell reception area (I use Verizon and I have the LG Dare). After reading a positive review elsewhere, I decided to try this, knowing there was a good possibiity it might not work. I’ve tested it with 2 calls so far, walking around, and it been very good. No drops in signal or sound. Now, I just need to a better solution than a baking sheet to attach the antenna to. Will post an update in a week.

Pluses and Minuses versus Safety 1st Tot-Lok Starter Set, January 20, 2009

If you’re reading this on Amazon, you’re probably also considering other magnetic locks for keeping children from opening cabinets & drawers, especially the Safety 1st Tot-Lok Starter Set, aka Cabinet Locks: Magnetic Tot Lok Starter Set. (The “Deluxe” Tot Lok starter versions have 4 locks, see Safety 1st Magnetic Tot Lok Deluxe Starter Set or Deluxe Magnetic Tot Lock Starter Set – 4Pk or Magnetic Baby Safety TOT LOCK Latches 4 Lock 1 Key.) I’ve tried them both, and here are the pluses and minuses:

ADVANTAGES COMPARED WITH SAFETY 1ST TOT-LOK: (1) Installation is much easier and faster (a few minutes at most). You simply stick the catch (with 4 “installation tabs”) on the cabinet edge, put the latch (with foam tape exposed) on the catch, close the door, and the latch sticks to the correct place on the door. You then break the 4 “installation tabs” on the catch. In theory, you don’t need to use screws; however, if you want a more secure installation (as I did), you can easily screw in the catch and the latch. Ingenious! (2) You need to drill only small pilot holes for the (optional) screws, not a large nonstandard-size hole as for the Tot Lok. (3) Besides the screws, locks, and a key, there are no extra pieces to get lost during installation. (4) The key has a holder, which theoretically will help prevent it getting lost when there’s no steel (e.g., refrigerator door or medicine cabinet) nearby. (5) You don’t need extension pins/slugs for thicker doors as the Tot Lok does; the KidCo will work on doors up to about 1-1/2″ thick. (6) The screws can be turned with a standard #2 Phillips screwdriver instead of a #1 (small) Phillips screwdriver.

DISADVANTAGES COMPARED WITH SAFETY 1ST TOT-LOK: (1) The latches depend on gravity, meaning that they can be mounted only at the top of a door or drawer; in contrast, the spring-loaded Tot-Lok can be mounted in any position (e.g., on the side or bottom of a cabinet door). (2) The dark grey sliders to disengage the locks are harder to manipulate than the Safety 1st red bars. (3) Unlike the Tot Lok’s catch (which has oblong slots instead of round holes for the screws), you can’t adjust the catch forward/backward. Combined with the default position of the catch being flush with the cabinet edge, installation on old-style cabinet doors with a “lip” (i.e., that protrude into the cabinet opening perhaps 1/4″) takes extra time.

Good luck choosing! BTW, the Safety 1st Tot-Lok and KidCo magnetic keys are of similar strength and polarity (i.e., the Tot-Lok key will open a KidCo lock and vice versa).

These locks work great. To install them just peel off the tape on the part that goes on the cabinet and attach that part to the cabinet, temporarily attach the part that goes on the door to the part attached to the cabinet, peel off the tape from the door part, shut the cabinet door and the tape sticks to the door and voila, both pieces are attached where they need to be. Once attached, they work great, much better than the kind that let the child open the door a little bit and stick his hands inside. I use those on cabinets that I use a lot and that don’t have anything dangerous in them. One thing that I found, is that these don’t work well on drawers unless the optional screws are used. For some reason, when used on drawers the cabinet part of the latch doesn’t stay in place well and so the drawer doesn’t stay locked unless the latch is screwed in place . A tip when you install these, make sure that the magnet works on the cabinet you are installing them on. I ruined the adhesive on two of the locks, thinking I had a defective lock cause it stayed in the “unlocked” state, I removed one and replaced it with another before figuring out that that particular cabinet had something inside of it at the location I was trying to put the cabinet lock that made the cabinet lock stay in the “unlocked” state. The adhesive is EXTREMELY sticky, be sure that you are placing it where you want it, cause there is no repositioning or removing it without ruining it.

Very easy to install as others have mentioned – took minutes.

I mistakenly put the first lock in the middle of the top edge of the cupboard door instead of close to the end. This meant that the first door would start opening a tiny bit before it would be stopped by the lock – no big deal.

Also, I found that on the second cupboard the key wouldn’t open the lock easily because the hook part of the lock was wedged up against the catch part (as it is supposed to do, but) too tightly. All I had to do was push the door in slightly to loosen it as I applied the key and it opens easy. Something to consider in case you can’t figure out why it isn’t unlocking.

Also, the lock has a switch you can deactivate it with if you no longer want to use the lock any more.

If you want to buy spare keys cheaply, don’t get a single key for 7 or eight dollars through the manufacturer. Instead go somewhere like dealextreme and get 10 super strong rare earth magnets (stronger than the key that comes with this lock) for about (get the 2mm thick ones as they are stronger).

You simply can’t find better magnets than these offered by Magcraft. Everything is great, from packaging, thru quality of company & product, to value for price paid.

This specific size is mostly likely the VERY best choice if you need a small magnet. The 1/4″ cubes are stronger, but harder to fit into some smaller spaces. The 1/8″ sizes, cube or rod, are a bit hard to handle & a bit weaker, although sill plenty strong. Only use those if you NEED a tiny magnet. While true that you get twice the amount of the smaller ones for about the same money, this size is worth the extra price …. if they’ll fit in whatever you ae doing.
